Hollywood honors Robert Duvall after his passing

Hollywood is paying tribute to actor Robert Duvall, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 95. The Academy Award-winning performer, a monumental figure in American film with a career that lasted over seventy years, was renowned for his memorable roles in iconic movies like "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now," as well as leading performances in works such as "The Natural" and "Tender Mercies."

Duvall's passing was announced by his wife, Luciana Duvall, in a statement posted on his official Facebook account on Monday, expressing that he "passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort."

As news of his death circulated, heartfelt tributes began to fill social media, with fellow actors, directors, and admirers celebrating Duvall's remarkable skill, enduring influence, and the significant impact he made in the world of cinema. Adam Sandler posted a nostalgic photograph of Duvall on Instagram, commending the late actor in a touching message.

"Funny as ever. Strong as ever. One of the greatest actors to have ever lived," he shared. He was deeply loved by all of us. There are countless legendary films to revisit. Watch them whenever possible. Sending condolences to his wife Luciana and all of his family and friends."

Academy Award winner Viola Davis also honored Duvall on Instagram, reminiscing about their collaboration on the 2018 neo-noir heist film "Widows." "It was a privilege to work with you on 'Widows.' I was filled with admiration. I've always been amazed by your powerful depictions of complex men who were both reserved and commanding in their humanity.

You were a titan… an icon," she wrote. Davis noted numerous celebrated works by Duvall, including "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Tender Mercies," "The Apostle," and the miniseries "Lonesome Dove,” concluding with, "Greatness is never erased. It remains… as a treasure. Rest peacefully, sir."

In a profoundly personal tribute, Walton Goggins, who starred alongside Duvall in the 1997 Southern Gothic film "The Apostle," reflected on him as "the greatest storyteller of all time." "He was my friend. My mentor," Goggins wrote in the caption of an Instagram post, accompanied by several images from the movie's set.

"I've cherished these photos for 30 years. They were captured by the still photographer during the making of THE APOSTLE, which he wrote and directed. I was just 24. The honor of collaborating with this extraordinary man and knowing him remains the most significant experience of my life."

Goggins added, "He was my guiding star, my idol. He recognized that. He granted me the privilege of staying by his side throughout our work… we upheld a deep friendship for many years beyond that. Yet, he did. He had that effect on many individuals… but this is my story.

I love you Bobby. Thank you for transforming my life. Sammy." Jamie Lee Curtis likewise honored Duvall on Monday by sharing an image of him portraying the character Tom Hagen, the consigliere and attorney for the Corleone family, a role he is best known for in "The Godfather."

In her caption, Curtis expressed, "The finest consigliere ever depicted on film. Well done, Robert Duvall."
