Lunar New Year rituals, automation and celebrations welcome the Year of the Horse.

Traditional prayers, fireworks, and fairs celebrated the Lunar New Year on Tuesday, along with 21st-century robotic figures. These festivities welcomed the Year of the Horse, which is one of the twelve creatures in the Chinese zodiac, following the Year of the Snake. In Beijing, thousands gathered at the historic Temple of Earth to purchase snacks, toys, and various goods from vendors.

Sun Jing, who brought her parents to the city for the holiday, remarked that the atmosphere felt just as vibrant as it did during her childhood. Large crowds flocked to well-known temples to burn incense and pray for good fortune and happiness in the upcoming year.

The Lunar New Year is the most significant yearly holiday in China and several other East Asian countries, with celebrations occurring beyond the region as well. As is customary each year, China held a television show to observe the Lunar New Year, featuring humanoid robots prominently in the performance on Monday night. A standout moment of the CCTV Spring Festival gala was a display of martial arts performed by children and robots.

For a few minutes, humanoid figures from Unitree Robotics displayed various routines and even showcased sword techniques. This display highlighted China's commitment to enhancing robot technology through advanced AI systems. Viewers showed their appreciation for the robots, with one person noting their beneficial guidance for the youth.

However, one man commented that although China's advancements in robotics are impressive, they diminished his overall experience. “It lacks some of the festive spirit of New Year,” Li Bo mentioned. "It's not as delightful as when I was a child watching the gala.”

Incense smoke floated into the air at a temple in Hong Kong, where individuals form lines each year at midnight to express their New Year wishes. Many held bundles of incense sticks, bowing their heads multiple times before placing the sticks into containers arranged in front of a temple hall. In Vietnam, performers sang at an outdoor countdown celebration prior to multiple fireworks displays in various cities, where the festival is referred to as Tet

Illuminations adorned bridges and skyscrapers as fireworks erupted, and crowds synchronized their clapping with the live pop music performances. People enjoyed Chinese dishes from food stalls and walked through snow-covered streets embellished with red lanterns and dragon decorations as the two weeks of festivities commenced on Monday across several locations in the Russian capital.

The third annual Lunar New Year celebration occurs amid improving relations between China and Russia, which has led to concerns among numerous European governments due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. At the Baoan Temple in Taipei on Tuesday morning, the deep toll of a temple bell rang out 108 times, a number considered auspicious, as people streamed to the site.

They lit incense sticks, bowed their heads, and left offerings of colorful floral arrangements in containers placed around the temple grounds in Taiwan's capital. Thousands of people from Argentina came together in the Chinatown of Buenos Aires to mark the Lunar New Year, taking pleasure in dragon and lion performances on the primary stage, as well as showcases of martial arts.

The Chinese immigrant population represents one of the most vibrant communities in Argentina, comprising over 180,000 individuals within the South American nation.
